Consulting
You don't always need a full build — sometimes you need the direction
For businesses that want expert technical guidance without a construction project — in person in Sydney, or by video call anywhere — we offer studio consulting as a standalone service, not a sales step before a build.
01 — The work
What consulting actually covers
The same assessment a studio design consultant would run before any build — on site in Sydney, or remotely from your photographs, drawings and a video call.
Room assessment, on site or remote.
In Sydney, we walk the room with you. Elsewhere, you send photographs, dimensions and whatever drawings exist, and we talk it through on a video call. We work out what the room will support — ceiling height against rigging, depth against background separation, surfaces against how controlled it can look, and what the surrounding building is likely to do to your sound. Where something can't be judged remotely, we say so rather than guessing.
Technical direction as a written report
The assessment becomes a specific plan: what to build, what to buy, what sequence to do it in, and what to leave out. Specified by requirement rather than by brand, so it holds up wherever you are and whatever's available locally.
02 — The fit
Who consulting actually suits
Four situations account for almost all of it: clients outside Sydney, businesses with their own contractor, early-stage planners weighing options, and architects specifying a studio into a tender document. If you're outside them, a normal build conversation is probably the better route.
Clients outside Sydney
Interstate or overseas, the thinking travels over a video call. Most of what determines whether a studio works is decided long before anyone picks up a tool.
Businesses with their own contractor
You already have builders you trust, or a facilities team who'll do the work. You need the studio-specific direction they don't have, in a form they can build from.
Early-stage planners
You're choosing between rooms, writing a budget submission, or testing whether the project is viable at all. Cheaper to find out now than after a lease is signed.
Architects & tender documents
Specifying a studio into a build that hasn't gone to tender yet. We provide a render with rough positioning of lighting, rigging and key equipment, for your builder to redraw into the tender set. See the Architects & Designers page for how we work with you.
03 — The deliverable
What you get back
A written direction document. Not a slide deck or a sales pitch — a document that states what the room can do, what it can't, what we'd build, and in what order.
It's written so a contractor or an internal facilities team can act on it without us. That's the point: you own the direction, and you're free to build it with whoever you like.
-
What the room can realistically produce, and what it can't
-
The build sequence, with what has to happen before anything else
-
A priced equipment list, chosen by requirement rather than brand
-
3D renders of the finished space, with rough positioning of key equipment
-
What we'd cut first if the budget moves
04 — Pricing
What does a studio build actually cost?
Meros offers three consulting tiers — direction only, design with project management, or a full turnkey build — starting from $2,500.
Level 1
Direction
From $2,500
Best for
You have your own contractor or in-house team.
Level 2
Design + Project Management
From $5,000 + supply margin
Best for
You want oversight without managing trades yourself.
Level 1
Full Build
From $10,000 + supply + install
Best for
Single point of responsibility, end to end.
Small, single-element fit-outs — a wall, a floor, a lighting install — are quoted directly rather than through this structure. No consulting fee layered on top of straightforward work.
If you're Sydney-based, a free site inspection is available as a next step after the Studio Planner, once we've got a first look at your space.
