Meros is Greek for “the right portion.” Not everything.
Not the catalogue. Exactly what your production needs.

WHY MEROS

We work as a photography studio consultant and builder — studio design and consulting across Australia, for photography, video and podcast studios. What follows is how we decide what goes in them — and what doesn't.

01 — Where we start

One question before any other

What does this room need to make, and how often? Everything else — the gear, the finish, the budget, the timeline — follows from that answer, and almost nothing can be decided properly before it.

Most studio conversations start at the other end, with a camera or a lighting kit or a background system. It's an understandable place to start and it's backwards: equipment chosen before the output is defined is equipment chosen against a guess.

Answering the question honestly also changes the scope in both directions. Sometimes it reveals the room needs less than expected. Sometimes it reveals that the thing actually needed is isolation, and the budget has been pointed at the wrong problem entirely. Both are better found in week one.

02 — Where it start

Every build starts as a consulting conversation

Before any design or build work happens, the first step is always understanding the scope — what the room needs to make, how often, and what's actually worth spending to get there. Sometimes that conversation is the whole engagement, for months or years, before a physical build follows. Sometimes it leads straight into design and construction. Either way, it starts the same place.

Meros offers three ways to work: consulting only, design and build, or remote technical direction for overseas clients. Engaging a studio design consultant early is usually cheaper than correcting a room that was specified against a guess.

01

Direction

A conversation, a site visit, or the Studio Planner — enough to know what the room has to make and whether it can.

02

Design

Drawings, specification and a costed scope — if a build makes sense now rather than later.

03

Build

On-site across Australia, project-managed end to end, with one point of contact throughout.

04

Handover & support

Commissioning, documentation and training, so the room is usable by the people who actually have to run it.

Step 1 doesn't always lead to Step 3. Sometimes it's the only step for years — and that's a complete engagement on its own, not a stepping stone to something bigger.

03 — What we won't do

Not everything,
the right thing

A studio builder who sells equipment has a structural reason to recommend more of it. We'd rather be the people who tell you the cyclorama isn't necessary, the third light has nowhere to go, and the isolation you were quoted for isn't warranted in a ground-floor room on a quiet street.

That's not modesty about scope. It's that an over-specified room is a worse room: more things to set up, more to go wrong, more that goes unused, and less budget left for the parts that actually decide the picture. Rooms that get used every week are rooms where the right things were bought and the rest were left out.

When we do recommend spending, we say what it buys and what happens if you skip it — so the decision stays yours with the trade-off visible, rather than arriving as a line on a quote.

04 — Where it comes from

Built on real production experience, not just design theory

Meros draws on years of hands-on studio design, equipment specification, and production work — including work as a photography studio consultant, running training for corporate teams and teaching photography and video production directly.

That's part of why consulting works as a standalone engagement here, not just a sales step before a build: the advice holds up on its own, whether or not a physical studio follows.

The goal is never to sell you everything. It's to build exactly what gets your production working.

05 — What to expect

What working with Meros actually looks like

Straight answers, even when they're not the answer that sells the bigger job. If a $15,000 fit-out solves the problem better than a $60,000 build, that's what gets recommended. Every quote breaks down what each cost actually buys.

Response times matter — enquiries get a real answer, not a form-letter holding pattern. A consulting-only engagement is treated as complete work, not an upsell funnel. If it becomes a build, the same person who scoped it stays involved through handover.

No pressure to decide faster than the decision deserves — some rooms need answering in a week, some in six months.

06 —  Where we work

Sydney-based, Australia-wide, remote where it makes sense

Three modes of working, and we'll tell you which one fits before you commit to any of them.

01

Sydney

Our home ground, and the base for our studio consulting Australia-wide. Site visits, full builds, commissioning and the training that goes with them — and the studios in our partner network are here too.

02

Australia-wide

We build on-site anywhere in the country. Travel and access affect the programme and we price them openly rather than folding them into the room.

03

Remote & overseas

Remote studio consulting for clients outside Australia, or anyone working with their own contractor: technical direction, drawings and specification delivered as a document your builder can work from.
